One of the best parts of summer (other than the beach of course) is getting to spend time outside, in the fresh air having fun with friends. Hubby and I celebrated our wedding anniversary off the beaten path last month but then we went full into summer mode at the local fair. Those of you that get the Gale Gazette know I always have a recipe of the month. Well, I put some of the recipes to the test last month and entered three contests at the Northeast Fair in Pittston Twp Pa.
I entered three categories: Specimen Vegetables, Food-Home Produced Products Baked Goods (Class- Cakes), and Food-Home Produced Products Baked Goods (Class- Cookies). The rules are strict, everything needs to be made completely from scratch.
Blue Ribbon
My green beans took 1st prize. I was shocked because I grew them from seeds in a pot on my deck (I can't plant them in the ground because there are too many animals here in the lush forest where I live that would love to eat them).
My strawberry cream cheese cake took second place in the Food-Home Produced Products Baked Goods Class- Cakes category.
My white chocolate cherry cookies took third prize in the Food-Home Produced Products Baked Goods Class- Cookies category.
