Did you know that Vampire legends vary throughout the world?

Traces of these ancient legends can be found in modern Vampire lore both on screen and in print. For example Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy is based on tales spun of Moroi and Strigoi BOTH of which can be traced back to Ancient Roman Vampire Legends.

Ancient Roman Lore calls them Moroii and they are said to be
  •  "The Moroii is a living vampire in Romanian folklore. Some stories refer to the creature as a vampire ghost. The vampire can be male or female."
Ancient Roman Lore of Strigoi
  • Strigoi is a popular vampire in Romanian vampire. Most Strigoi are the troubled souls of the dead who have rose from the grave, generally including witches and evil spirits, but there are some Strigoi that are living people who have magical properties, which may include the ability to transform into an animal.

It would be neglectful to leave out the Icelandic hottie that is True Blood's Eric Northman. His Nordic ancestry tells us a lot about where his character developed his thirst for bloody vengence. In Nordic Mythology there is a legend of a creature called The Draugr. The Draugr is a blood thirsty warrior caught between life and death in order to reap revenge on their enemies. Eric epitomizes The Draugr the fact that he makes it look sexy as hell is just a bonus.

This information doesn't leave even a tiny scratch on the amount of folklore and legends that modern authors have used to create our beloved blood sucking Vampires. We have a fascination with demonic creatures of the night so much so that we've made them immortal unintentionally through print and film.
